More Random Thoughts…
So, I think I fixed the bike. Hopefully, although embarrasingly, I think it was just a case of me not paying enough attention last week and putting the chaintug on the non-drive side instead of the drive-side. I guess the wheel slipped in the track ends causing the chain to want to drop when I really cranked the pedals hard. At least, I hope this is the case. I’ll try it out one day this week.
No riding today. I didn’t bring the road bike to work with me since I really didn’t feel like riding in 42 degree weather at lunch. Tomorrow looks promising.
Other than the 1/2 lap at the race yesterday and 30 minutes on the Short Track last Monday night, I haven’t been on the bike(s) at all. (Not counting my Per4mance Training Night). It’s time to get more saddle time in now that I’m out of “team training”. Plus, since I’m working MUCH earlier hours, I’ll have more time in the afternoon/evenings. My legs are really feeling the time off the bike.
I thought my weight would feel the time off the bike, too, but tonight was weigh-in night (www.weightwatchers.com), and I lost 2.2 lbs. That makes up for the slight slip-up last week. For those of you who don’t know, I’m 40 lbs. lighter than I was in 1999 thanks to Weight Watchers. I still struggle with maintaining my weight, especially when riding hard and trying to fuel for racing. I have to really watch my intake/output/bloodsugar (I’m also hypoglycemic). I’m focused again on losing during this winter training season. I’ve lost roughly 5 lbs since the first of the year and would like to lose about 10 more.
That’s all for today. Maybe later this week we’ll discuss my huge thighs.
Can we discuss duties?
I’ll have to put “duties” in the blog-cue.
Jeannie (my gf) has been on weight watchers for almost two years now. Has lost 40 lbs thus far.. Recently went back to watching points to lose the last 20 lbs. Hanging out with me and my love of bad bad foods wasn’t doing her very good. Now we both are watching what we eat - her a bit more than I.
Weightwatchers should be paid for by the government I swear. What Jeannie has done makes me so proud & what a lot of women do on that program floor me. Sure the points thing online is fun if you are competitive, but most of those women are working moms. So again.. floors me.
Good job Jen & maybe we will drag you out to long slow miles on the road bike this spring.
I don’t do the online WW thing, I actually go to the center for weight-ins. They didn’t have online when I started, and I’ve gotten to know the people in the meetings pretty well.
WW is a great program for losing weight. Where I think it lacks substance is for people who are very active in endurance sports. Yes, you can earn “activity” points, but for me, balancing the nutrition needs for highly anaerobic activity and losing weight is very VERY hard.
I have a bunch of books on Sports Nutrition, but they are very theoretical and long and hard to put all the info together. I’ve thought about seeing a Sports Nutritionist, but can’t find one that’s not a quack. (yet)
Hey Jen –
Arleigh sent me this link (since she was talking about me! haha). I’m coming to visit Ar this weekend and am going to miss my weight watchers meeting. Not sure where you go, I know there are a few in the Charlotte area, but I’m hoping to get to one on Friday or Saturday… so if you could recomend a place that would be great!
Anyway… congrats on everything. Sounds like you’re doing great!
Jeannie,
I go to the Quorum Shopping Center Location at the corner of Independence Blvd and Village Lake Dr., across from Best Buy. There is a “Lebos” and a Chinese Restaurant in the shopping strip. Meeting times for Friday/Saturday:

Saturday: 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am
added your link to my site. Better have tons of content, cuz you’ll be getting tons of viewers..
